Atherosclerosis is known to be a sort of arteriosclerosis, yet notwithstanding the solidifying and narrowing of the supply routes, cholesterol starts to store inside their dividers. It is a multifactorial ailment which incorporates develop of atheromatous plaque and collection of increasingly complex sores inside the blood vessel dividers explicitly in the intimal layer prompting the break of these powerless atherosclerotic plaques (Skjot-Arkil et al, 2010). This procedure is started in adolescence and as indicated by the aftereffects of PDAY  (pathobiological determinants of atherosclerosis in youth study), noticeable side effects of atherosclerosis will happen between ages of 15-54 years (McGill et al.2007). Besides this ailment can happen in both medium and enormous measured corridors including the aorta, carotid conduit and even the littler coronary courses. Because of the way that it influences numerous blood vessel areas, it would then be able to prompt clinical infections, for example, coronary vein illness, cerebrovascular sickness, myocardial dead tissue. Jongstra et al. (2006) exhibited that inside the intima of VCAM-1 positive mice, nearby constant aggravation inclined to atherosclerosis. This gave additional proof to help past investigations that irritation takes an interest in the atherosclerotic procedure. Thus, aggravation is continuously engaged with the plaque development, bringing about an inescapable stenosis (Vidal-Vanaclocha, 2009). Various epidemiological investigations have uncovered many hazard factors that quicken atherosclerosis improvement including age, male sexual orientation, heftiness, smoking, hypertension and diabetes mellitus. In addition, an ongoing report (Holvoet et al, 2007) found that a positive connection exists between an expanded measure of oxidized LDL and the amount of calcium developed in the coronary course. Subsequently indicating that expanded measure of oxidized LDL is a special hazard factor for the advancement of atherosclerosis. The elements that encourage this plaque development are incendiary go betweens. As the endothelial cell is enacted, this outcomes in articulation of numerous cell surface grip atoms including cytokines, chemokines, monocytes, immunoglobulins. These advance endothelial brokenness in atherosclerosis just as prompting froth cell arrangement with the help of macrophages. Notwithstanding, the practical components of cytokines in starting and dragging out atheros clerosis are as yet not obviously comprehended. Points To investigate the job of aggravation in atherosclerosis To investigate the components of provocative cell enlistment and collection inside the plaque. To investigate the capacity of different various go betweens in this procedure, including both professional and mitigating go betweens. Basis of the points To examine the impacts of the provocative cycle on veins utilizing atherosclerosis as the focal condition. Henceforth, following the points and destinations of the writing audit, a review of various meta-investigations of go between inclusion in this procedure is given. This would be performed by inspecting the most important writing for as far back as five years utilizing Pubmed, Science direct and Google Scholar. Associations together with different officials thought of some restricting powers on the bill. The fundamental thought behind their restricting powers was a result of the key arrangements in the bill. A portion of the arrangements inside the bill guaranteed that individual fines from neglecting to buy the protection doesn't work inside the extent of burdening forces of the Congress. Among the states that responded over the demonstration is Iowa, which utilized its officials to sue the advancement (DPC 3). The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) otherwise called the Obamacare plan, has different arrangements contained in that to provide food for the wellbeing needs of the residents. There is incorporation of a parent proviso that manages earlier approaches on wellbeing and makes the Act to be excluded from the arrangements (Pipes 5). The principal arrangement is the ensured issue condition. This requires the wellbeing strategies to be given to the residents with no segregation in regards to their ailment. Funnels (161) further shows that the law likewise expects safety net providers to practice halfway network rating whereby same premiums must be given to candidates inside the equivalent land area or age (8). Sexual orientation ought not be viewed as a segregating factor or earlier existing conditions except for tobacco use. This paper will look at the response of certain states remarkably Iowa and Virginia. It will likewise assess the distinctions in their responses and usage of the Act. This implies there ought to be an assortment of premiums accessible in the market. The Act additionally provides food for low pay workers. It accommodates government endowments to be allowed on a sliding scale to families somewhere in the range of 100% and 400% of the bureaucratic destitution level (DPC 7). This is anyway dependent upon them buying a protection premium through a trade. The Supreme Court anyway left a proviso in the enactment when it permitted a few states to reject themselves out of the Medicaid extension (Pipes 18). These states are anyway required to set up their own parameters on the qualification of the individuals. The greater par t of the states under this classification fall under the 133% limit. Another arrangement requires states and back up plans to set the policies’ measures and bans approaches that spread the lifetime of a policyholder. A scope of charges and balances (DPC 8) reserves the arrangements under the Act. The vast majority of the income is gotten from extended Medicare charge particularly on wages in abundance of $200,000 and $250,000. Different sources as indicated by Gibson and Pranad (154) incorporate a 40% extract charge on protection arrangements, charge on pharmaceuticals, costly symptomatic hardware, a 10% assessment charged on the business expense of indoor tanning administrations and a rate from the yearly expense charged on protection suppliers. Balances then again are gotten from expected reserve funds from the costs identified with Medicare Advantage programs. Under this Act, the national government was going to pay full expenses for a long time and afterward move the expe nses bit by bit to the state (DPC 8). The expense was to be moved in 10% portions after some time. In any case, a couple of concerns were raised with respect to the drawn out feasibility of the model. From an outsider’s perspective, this could be the best thing to ever happen to a nation. The turmoil made by the Republicans and residents left many thinking about what wasn't right with this law. Because of the decision in National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius, numerous states responded diversely to the Act. The decision repudiated numerous angles that had been clarified to the individuals by the president and other significant specialists with information. This is regardless of the way that the Act gives some unimaginable rules to accomplish excellent arrangement of social insurance in the country.Advertising We will compose a custom research paper test on Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More Reacti ons by the Iowa state Iowa is one of the numerous states that responded on the endorsement of the Act by the president. The state utilized the senator in marking a claim against the government medicinal services. As per the representative, the claim will challenge individual order of the medicinal services charge, which powers Iowans to buy health care coverage from the national government, which is required. Also, the law gives alternative for the development of Medicaid, which is very expensive making the occupants of the state to cut on their different projects. The effect of the social insurance bill will totally disrupt the state financial plan along these lines freezing huge exercises. Taking into account that the senator is attempting to process a five-year spending plan, incorporation of the law in the spending will influence the Iowa citizens. Iowa individuals see the law as an obstruction on their achievement being developed. An extra cost on their pay will modify their ev ery day tasks costs in this way influencing the general improvement of the state. From the taxpayers’ point of view, they chance covering more duties, which can fill in for other significant exercises (Danielson standard 3). Despite what might be expected, some have positive expectations on the usage of the law. From their point of view, the law will enable the Iowa to state to satisfy its objectives of security and advancement of wellbeing and government assistance of the general population. Taking into account that medicinal services is a urgent factor in many areas, execution of the law would help in explaining medical problems that worries the general public at a moderate rate. Responses by the Virginia State Another state to respond on the social insurance law marked by the president is Virginia. As indicated by the individuals of the express, the human services change expects individuals to buy medical coverage, which presents unlawfulness in the country. Another explan ation that the state responded upon the law was the individual order of buying the law together with the immediate ward arrangements that the law gives to the residents (Kousser and Justin 42). As per the area of individual command, the law requires all the residents to buy the protection by 2014 or face a punishment for not purchasing. From the lawful perspective, the last language of the law misleadingly makes reference to the punishment charge, earlier its name being a punishment in the draft language before passing the last bill. The factor of punishment and duty is a mystery thinking about that the constitution requires the central government to force charges with a punishment forced to the individuals who abuse the constitution. In an honest nation, people ought to be given an opportunity naturally to acknowledge a portion of the laws executed by the administration (Pecquet standard 6).Advertising Searching for investigate paper on wellbeing medication? It is along these lines not unintentionally that a large portion of the states that contradicted the establishment of this law are comprised of greater part Republicans and preservationists. In any case, the responses from Iowa were increasingly dangerous when contrasted with the responses from Virginia (Steinglass 216). The Iowa Republicans were vocal on the issue and were determined to acknowledge the law until the time their interests were tended to. Being in charge of the particular expresses, the usage of this law relied colossally upon these people’s impact on the financial plan of the states and different types of campaigning inside the wellbeing area. This is the thing that a portion of the legislators from the two states needed to state: In Iowa, the vast majority of the Republicans were illegal. Being the greater part, they were the ones who were accused of the obligation of actualizing the Act and much relied upon their remain on the issue. McCarthyism and The Crucible contain many similarities and differences in their persecution and accusation of people who are identified as criminals of their societies. Both events in history contain extremely similar circumstances, including the accusation of one person leading to a mass hysteria enveloping a society to be overly suspicious of their fellow people. The two events also contain many differences, including time, society structure, and the magnitude of the event. McCarthyism is named for Joseph McCarthy, a Wisconsin senator in the 1950s that†¦show more content†¦Another similarity between the two events is the fear of the unknown fear that swept through America during these two time periods. In the 1600s, the people of Salem believed that they were besieged by the devil, and became so scared of that possibility they began to see things from a perspective that led them to believe that all things that happened that were not of a good nature were of the devil and caused by a witch in the village. This movement reappeared in the McCarthy era, when people began to see others spying, sending money, and supporting communism when, in fact, they were totally against communism. Perhaps these people needed to read The Crucible and see how much they resembled the girls in Salem on their witch-hunt. In all their similarity, there are some major differences between The Crucible and the McCarthyism of the fifties. The most obvious difference is the four hundred year gap between the events of The Crucible and the events that occurred during the McCarthyism period. This gap represents a distinct and different society between the two events in history, and shows that circumstances pertaining to these events cannot be the same. Abuse of Power in Heart of Darkness and in Frankenstein

How is the abuse of power shown in two works that you have studied? The works I have studied and will be exploring in this essay are Mary Shelly’s ‘Frankenstein’ and Joseph Conrad’s ‘Heart of Darkness’. In ‘Frankenstein’ the abuse of power is most clearly exhibited by the protagonist of the story Frankenstein himself, his abuse of power results in his isolation and could serve as a warning to people, telling them not to play with forces that they can not control. In ‘Heart of Darkness’, Conrad abuses his power as the author to distance himself from the novella and in a sense absolve himself from any racist criticism the book may induce. The abuse of power is also a key theme in the novella itself. Firstly there is a sense of hypocrisy in†¦show more content†¦King Leopold was abusing his position of power to exploit the Congo for it’s raw materials, it can be said that the vivid cruel and gruesome images Conrad conveys in the book are merely mirroring the harsh reality of the brutalisation in Africa. One could therefore conclude that due to Conrad’s own experiences in the Congo he has to tell his story through a framed narrative, as it may be too difficult for him to share his story in the first person. Whether this was the case or not, it is clear than in ‘Heart of Darkness’ Conrad reveals the abuse of power to be ever present in the colonial age that Conrad lived in, and he demonstrates the abuse of power as something to be wary of and to fear, as it can result in madness. Finally the abuse of power in the Congo also demonstrates the hypocrisy of Imperialism through the corruption observed in ‘the company’. Before Marlow travels to the Congo itself he reveals that it was very difficult for him to ascertain a job, which would result in his exploration of the river which had charmed and fascinated him from childhood. It is at this point that Marlow decides to ask his aunt for help, and she manages to get him a job, which will take him where he desires to go. This clearly demonstrates that Marlow’s abuse of power right at the beginning of the book. He then proceeds to judge others who are abusing power when he is in the Congo. Question: Explain about the Analysis Of Service Quality Management In The Materials Industry Using The Bcg Matrix Method? Answer: 1: Principles of marketing assignment Organizations that are sufficiently substantial to be sorted out into vital specialty units confront the test of assigning assets among those units. TheBCG matrix is an efficient tool when it comes to managing a company's portfolio in a vast and competitive market. Through its simple analysis of the enterprise's products and services, maintaining the value and increasing it is achieved for both long term and short term intended products( Ioana Bălescu,2009). All the companys products are grouped into four categories for easier analysis; Dogs: products clustered in this cluster are of minimal growth where they produce low income in the market. Question marks Products in this category have minimal play in the high growth markets Stars: these are Products that have large shares in the market and have also increased growth in the same market Cash cows: Products grouped in this category are of tremendously minimal growth market, but the good thing about them is that they tend to gain a large part of the market low growth markets with significant market share 2: The marketing strategy I would use for lazy water is the relationship marketing strategy. Finding Experts Who Want to Help With Your Writing Project

Finding Experts Who Want to Help With Your Writing Project Finding Experts Who Want to Help With Your Writing Project Finding Experts Who Want to Help With Your Writing Project By Michael Youve probably read those acknowledgements at the back of a book: Special thanks to Nobel Prize winner Niels Ryberg Finsen for the many hours of medical advice and strong coffee he shared with me, without which this book would not be possible. And youve wondered what it takes to get a world-famous expert of your own, one who could answer the nagging technical questions that come up in your writing project. Now, unless youre working on a book for a major publisher, you probably wont get a Nobel laureate on your team, but knowledgeable experts can be found almost everywhere, at your local college or across the world through email. The good news is that experts are usually glad to help for free. They love finding someone who cares about their subject and they hate having their specialty misrepresented. The wife of one history professor joked that even if the university wasnt paying him, he would go door to door asking, Hi! Have you heard about World War I? Approaching an expert First, figure out what you dont know. As you write, add tags to your text such as [research] so you can search for them later using Control-F or Command-F on your computer. Make a list, in advance, of the most important questions you want answered. When you email an expert, show them that you didnt pick them at random. Show them you know who they are and what they do, that youve read something theyve written. Tell them a little about your writing project. The more reputable and stable it sounds, the more likely the expert will agree to help you. If you already have a book deal, thats good. If youre asking them to do your homework for school, thats not good. Limit your email to one or two brief, narrow, and focused questions. Include your contact information, especially if youre asking for a telephone or face-to-face interview. Give them lots of lead time; dont rush them. Ask for their help weeks or months before you need to submit your manuscript. If they dont reply to your email, stop there. Dont bug them again. You can find another expert. When you talk to an expert, be prepared; dont waste their time with fuzzy questions. Im reminded of a mock interviewer who asked Paul McCartney, Remember when you were with the Beatles? Yes, he did. Keep it open-ended: Is there anything else you want to tell me? An off-hand comment might give you a new story idea that transforms your old one. Ask about what you can ask for. If they answer one question, are they willing to answer more? To meet with you for lunch? To read over your manuscript and make suggestions? It all depends on their availability and interest which depends partly on your professionalism and courtesy. Seek viewpoints that disagree with you. For most writers, the most vivid parts are the points they support and the characters they like. That means your villains may be one-sided. Compensate for your weaknesses by learning about things you would ordinarily ignore. When I was writing a novel that included extremists, I read one of the key books written by their founder. Finding an expert Use your network. Ask people you know, Who do you know that knows about this subject? Reference librarians (often found at libraries) can help you find the answer to any question a sort of non-electronic Google, but without spam or fake news. If your local library doesnt have reference librarians, the U.S. Library of Congress does and you dont need to be a U.S. Congressman to ask them questions. Many colleges and universities have faculty experts lists that are searchable by topic. Many are especially skilled or specially trained as communicators, but all are eager to share their expertise. StackExchange.com is a family of websites where users can ask all sorts of questions and the most helpful questions and answers are voted up. The National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) website has its own Reference Desk in their forums, about which they say, What actually does relate to the price of cheese in China? How many cats can you fit in a coffin? Why does the ABC song and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star have the same tune? You have a research question. Someone in here has an answer. Sign up (you were planning on writing a novel someday, werent you?), log into the website and you can ask away. NaNoWriMo officially starts in November but the forum is open year-round. Showing your gratitude When youve finished your draft, send your expert the chapter or the article they helped you write. They may have more comments and corrections to offer. You can use all the help they can give. When deciding how to thank your expert collaborator, think about how much time and effort they spent, and how vital their contribution was to you. If you literally couldnt have done it without them, and youre making money from their contributions, you may want to offer them some of the money as payment or a tip. Like all of us, your expert has something they want to accomplish by working with you, so think about how you can assist them in accomplishing it. Do they enjoy helping others (you)? Let them know, in several ways, how much you appreciate it. Do they want to correct a misunderstanding, and give your readers an accurate view of their field? Make every effort to get their message across, without compromising your story. You might disagree with their perspective, but at least present it fairly. Do they want the prestige of working with a published author? Use their name prominently in your acknowledgements and publicity. They may want copies to give out. If they have worked with you extensively, they might deserve a co-authoring credit. Write a thank you note. You know, with pen and ink. Maybe on a note card. Send them an autographed copy of your story or article when its published. Bring or send an appropriate gift. If you ask to meet with them, buy them lunch. If youre a fiction writer, name a character or place after them. They will be tickled. Of course, mention them in the acknowledgments of your book. Everybody likes to be recognized. Unless theyre a spy and want to remain undercover. Writing can be a solitary occupation, and you may never have considered that someone important could be interested in working with you. But Joe Moore, a bestselling author of thrillers with Lynn Sholes, says, The most remarkable thing we’ve discovered is that expert advice is easy to get. Almost everyone we’ve approached has been eager to provide fictionalized theories and futuristic details that help make our often outlandish premises ring within the realm of possibility. A Study of Health & Safety Management on Construction Sites, for Dissertation

A Study of Health & Safety Management on Construction Sites, for construction companies within Riyadh city in Saudi Arabia - Dissertation Example While this may stand true for more developed nations, however, nations such as Saudi Arabia are still trying to tackle with a high construction rate coupled with a low safety assessment and enforcement methodology. Overall, there is no single governmentally sponsored safety assessment and enforcement system within Saudi Arabia for the moment. (Fullman, 1984) Though there has been a move forward by the creation of the â€Å"Saudi Building Code National Committee† but as yet work within the safety and health portfolios remains scant and as yet experimental. (Mena Report, 2006) The lack of coherent safety assessment and enforcement schemes implies that there is still much ground that needs to be covered as per the Saudi safety standards in general and construction safety standards in particular are concerned. Hence, the need for research into current safety practices arises based on the concerns noted above so as to have a baseline available before policy making on safety begins. The proposed research aims at plugging some gaps in the current research base so as to expand horizons. The other question now, is the methodology that ought to be applied in order to conduct meaningful research.

Great deprassion Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Great deprassion - Research Paper Example This saw most of the Americans loose their farms and homes which led to some of them deciding to escape from America using trains which crossed over their borders to the neighboring countries and other states within America which were not adversely affected by the depression. These people who migrated to other states and countries thought that they would find new jobs wherever they went but that was not to be as the depression had affected almost the whole of America and its neighbours.From the studies it was noted that America was the first country to recover from the Depression which started at around 1933 but the recovery was slowed down in the following two years but after the two years of slowing down the economy started to have a steady recovery in the year 1935.As the economy was recovering and doing well in the 1940 there came the World War 11 started and America was drawn into economic depression again which slowed down the process of recovery and that’s why it was ca me to be known as the Great Depression. In the history of U.S this depression which is said to have affected the whole world has come to be known as the ‘defining moment’. This depression made the federal government change the Way it was performing towards the economy. The government had to control all the business activities which the businessmen objected to in order to control the economy. Some of the drastic measures that the federal government took to recover the economy included laying down of the elderly citizens who were working thus giving them involuntary unemployment compensation. It as well changed the labor engagements between the employers and the employees through the Wagner Act which promoted the formation of unions to act as their arbitrator so that they could be fairly represented. But all this changes needed an increase in the federal government size. After the expansion of the federal government there were some economical changes which were experience d like in the case of paid citizens in the 1920s they increased in number as they approached the 1930s.The depression also changed the way people looked at the economy as many of them blamed lack of adequate demand which all the economists thought that the federal government should intervene and stabilize it through formulating good economic policies. Overtime many Economists have tried to demystify the cause of the depression and its reasons to affect other nations adversely than others but they have not come to a unanimous conclusion on what caused the depression. During this economic hardship America was very cautious with all the nations that it associated itself with economically. This was so because other European countries which had been hit by the depression had decided to operate within their borders this meant that there was less global trade which in turn would hurt the American economy due to its presence in most of these countries. The reason why some countries detached themselves from the global trade is that they blamed it for the emergence of the two world wars and they did not want to see the occurrence of such wars again. So as to resuscitate the global trade and promote the economy there was a dire need to form global monetary bodies so that they could assist in the supporting of the global trade. Due to this need then it led to the formation of two International Financial Institutions that would

Comparison of Heroin Lies with The Basketball Diaries Essay Example for Free

Comparison of Heroin Lies with The Basketball Diaries Essay Heroin is a deadly drug, which kills approximately one million people every year. In this essay I will be comparing two dramatic acts. Heroin Lies, which I acted out. The other is a 1995 hit called The Basketball Diaries. I chose this particular film to compare with my act because they have several similarities but also a number amount of differences. The beginning of the film The Basketball diaries starts with an ordinarily boy waking up in bed on a normal day. Instantly you see that he has got a type of book in his hand, which later on we see that it is his diary which he occasionally writes in. In the block opposite him we see a strong religious woman constantly shouting out what seems to be a prayer. We then witness the boy by the name of Jimmy Carroll change from an innocent being to a horrifying beast as he tells this religious woman to Shut up! We now see that Jimmy has a horrible side to him. As we watch on we see that Jimmy Carroll is a star basketball player on his New York City Catholic school team. Fellow basketball team mates Mickey and Neutron and unofficial cheerleader Pedro are Jimmys closest friends, and whenever trouble stalks one, it invariably affects them all. So, when the drug cycle starts, it quickly spreads to each of the four corners of the friendship. What begins as casual use first becomes a weekend habit, then an everyday obsession. Grades plummet, on-court performance becomes unreliable, and crime looms as the only means to pay for a seemingly endless supply of uppers, downers, cocaine, and heroin. Heroin Lies is a play written by Wayne Denfhy. The story is about a young teenage girl that is having problems with friends. Later on she finds her self addicted to heroin and soon after dies at an early age. We chose a scene from the play and we made changes to the scene as apart of our task, for example we added monologues and dialogues. I learnt a lot about the characters in our scene. Vicki was a young stubborn teenager who had a lot of confusing things going on in her life, although she finally decided to make a decision and start taking drugs to solve her problems. Mandy had been involved with drugs longer than Vicki. So obviously Mandy would be more confident about it. Mandy can easily loose her temper as we showed in the play when Vicki hits the drugs all over the floor. Mandy ends up slapping Vicki. This implies that Mandy is quite violent and doesnt know how to control her emotions very well. My character (Jason) wears corded trouser and an old knitted woollen jumper to sho w that he bought them from Oxfam, since what he wears is mentioned in the script. I believe that Jason is quite immature watching playschool and pretending to grow into a big tree. However this end scene Mandy got what she came for. Jason, my character, was an older brother of Vicki, as it says in the script however I had played him younger then Vicki. As Mandy was flirting with me I used a stuttering voice to emphasize the fact that I was shy. This tells us that Jason is growing up as the tree is growing, and Vicki is stuck, still having problems with friends and drugs. This scene Mandy probably would like to know more about Jason. Not only does the relationship between Mandy, and Jason but the relationship with Vicki later on in the scene. Vicki seems more dominating with Jason since she scares him off. I dont believe that Vicki feels very comfortable having Mandy in her house. This results in Vicki snatching the drugs off Mandy and Mandy hitting Vicki. After Vicki has been hit. Mandy comes to her senses and tells her she regrets hitting her and asks Vicki to take some drugs. I believe that this is the most important part of the scene because this is the first step of Vicki ending her life. Heroin Lies and The Basketball Diaries in my opinion had interesting but defiantly very similar characters. Vicki Brown (Heroin Lies) who is a drug addict who gets thrown out of her house. Jimmy Carroll (The Basketball Diaries) is a drug addict and like Vicki Brown gets thrown out of his house. This is an example of a similarity. However after becoming a drug addict Vicki Brown then leads to a tragic ending. Whilst Jimmy Carroll then realises his mistakes, then fights his addiction to drugs. I have researched Heroin to find out more about this drug. Heroin is a highly addictive drug, and its use is a serious problem in America. Recent studies suggest a shift from injecting heroin to snorting or smoking because of increased purity and the misconception that these forms of use will not lead to addiction. (From a website discussing drugs) The play that I did Heroin Lies and the film The Basketball Diaries had several similarities and differences. The main similarity that I picked up was that these two plays were based on drugs. This is also the main reason I chose to compare these two plays. Heroin Lies was set in the 90s, which is modern time. These days it tends to be teenagers that are addicted to these drugs. The film The Basketball Diaries was also set in the 90s, which again the teenagers are pushed towards Heroin.

Violence :: essays research papers

Media Violence   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Psychological research has shown three major effects of seeing violence on television. The three major effects that many parents world wide fear are children may become More aggressive and behave in harmful or hazardous to others. Be less sensitive to the pain and suffering of others, and children may be more fearful of the world around them. Violent programs on television lead to aggressive behavior by children and teenagers who watch those programs. Children begin watching television at an early age, sometimes as early as six months, and are ardent viewers by the time they are two or three years old. The general pattern of viewing is one of the steady rise in the number of hours viewed from early childhood to preadolescence and then a sharp drop in viewing during the adolescent years. According to audience rating surveys, the typical American household has the television set on for more than seven hours each day, and children age 2 to 11 spend an average of 28 hours per week viewing. There is a growing concern in this country about teenage violence and how it is connected to the violence seen on the television. The impressionable youth of America somehow fall victim to spending many hours a day watching television and is exposed to violence. Studies show that the average child has witnessed eight thousand murders before they actually finished elementary school. Most of the shows that the younger generations watch contain some vi olence. Several years ago when Power Rangers was first Broadcasted, it had a great effect on the younger population concerning violence. Many children began trying to imitate these so called â€Å"Heroes.† Three out five children, eight-six percent males had a tendency to want to rough house with the other children and or had outbursts of violence. Of course, conditions in society, does not make it easy to pull a child away from the television. Parents work and most families cannot afford to have a parent stay home and watch the children. This situation is understandable and does not necessarily mean that parents do not care for their children. Parents regardless of the situation should try to be as involved as much as possible. Parents should take time out to speak to their children about certain programs they might come across while viewing the television. Parents should also view programs with their children so they can get a better understanding of what their children see when they turn on the television.

Bus 303 Practice Midterm Essay

Characters: Cathy and Dave, a well-to-do professional couple Al, a real estate salesman Cathy and Dave are young, upwardly mobile. They hold good professional jobs in downtown Chicago. One day Cathy received an invitation in-the mail, from a resort called Green Acres (GA), which was located near the mountains, about eight hour driving time from Chicago. The mailer invited the young couple to spend two nights free of cost and receive $50 for expenses. All they had to do in return was to listen to a presentation, see a video, and take a tour of the resort for about two hours. Additional conditions included 24 hour advance booking of the room with 24 hour notice for cancellations, and a valid credit card. Green Acres would charge $50 for a no show. Although the letter made no mention of it, Cathy and Dave knew the invitation was a real estate promotion and guessed that the two hours with the GA staff meant a hard sell for a condo or a timeshare near a lake or a golf course, something they did not want. They decided to take the offer anyway in order to get a free vacation and arranged to visit GA the following weekend. Cathy and Dave had a good time at GA. The only sour point of the trip was the last exchange they had with Al the salesman. At the end of the two hour presentation when Cathy and Dave had refused to buy any GA properties, Al looked at Dave in frustration and said, â€Å"If you knew you weren’t going to buy any property here, why did you come? Our company spent $300 to get you down here, and you have taken food off my family’s table. What you did is immoral. Please don’t do it again.† At this Dave retorted, â€Å"Your letter was clear, there was nothing in it that said a purchase of real estate was involved, and we had no obligation to buy anything from you. Your invitation was unconditional, I don’t owe you or your family anything and I resent what you just said.† At the end of this uncomfortable exchange, Cathy and Dave left the room with an unpleasant feeling. But the unpleasant feelings did not last long because the drive back through the m ountains was truly spectacular. After a few days Cathy said to Dave, â€Å"You know, I’m still mad about what Al said to us at Green Acres. Should we write to his boss, or to the real estate board or to some government agency? You know, if we don’t do something, some poor unsuspecting people might fall for their gimmicks!† Dave replied, â€Å"No, I don’t think we should waste any time on this. Most people know, or should know what they are getting into-there are no free lunches! Besides if we complain, Al may lose his job and when we’ll be really taking the food from his family’s table!† What Are the Relevant Facts? 1. Cathy and Dave are educated and well paid. 2. They received an unsolicited invitation from Green Acres (GA). 3. The invitation had nothing in it that said they had to buy anything from GA. 4. They correctly guessed that the GA sales staff would put pressure on them to buy real estate. 5. GA was eight hours driving time from Chicago. 6. Al made a sales presentation. 7. Cathy and Dave listened to the presentation. 8. Al said Cathy and Dave had acted immorally and had deprived him of a chance of earning a sales commission. 9. Dave said that they had fulfilled their obligation, as outlined in the invitation, and had not acted incorrectly. What Are the Ethical Issues? 1. What is the role of inducements in marketing? 2. What is the responsibility of individuals who accept inducements? Do they have any moral obligations to purchase goods if they accept free gifts from merchants? 3. Is giving attractive gifts to potential buyers an ethical practice? Does the size of the gift or the inducement matter? 4. Cathy and Dave were sophisticated, educated city folk and did not feel pressured to buy from GA. Do less educated or less sophisticated consumers feel pressured to buy merchandise under enticements of gifts? Would such business practice be considered ethical? 5. Should Cathy and Dave complain so that other vulnerable people may not be pressured into buying expensive property they do not want? Who Are the Primary Stakeholders? †¢ Cathy and Dave †¢ Al †¢ GA †¢ GA’s stockholders †¢ Other potential consumers, especially the vulnerable ones What Are the Possible Alternatives? 1. Cathy and Dave can forget the incident and do nothing. 2. They can file a complaint with GA. 3. They can file a complaint with the appropriate authorities. 4. They can write to Al. What Are the Ethics of the Alternatives? 1. What is the best course of action for Cathy and Dave from the moral standpoint? What is the best course of action that Cathy and Dave take that will provide the greatest benefit to the greatest number? 2. Do Cathy and Dave and other potential customers have rights not to be pressured or induced into actions they may not wish to take? Do GA and Al have rights to pursue their business and personal interests? Were any rights violated? 3. What is the just thing to do in this case? Which alternative distributes the burdens and responsibilities fairly? If Cathy and Dave act and if GA improves its practices everyone except Al may benefit. Not complaining may mean Al will continue his tactics and undermine GA’s goals assuming that word would get around and additional customers will be offended. What Are the Practical Constraints? None. What Actions Should Be Taken? 1. What should Cathy and Dave do? 2. Which alternative would you choose? 3. Which approach (utilitarian, rights, or justice) makes the most sense to you in this situation? Clearly, no action could mean unsuspecting people may be lured into buying expensive real estate with potentially severe consequences. Complaints could lead to improved practice and better performance but could lead to the loss of Al’s job. 4. What is the right thing to do?

How to Conjugate Remplir (to Fill) in French

The French verb  remplir  means to fill. When trying to remember it, it may help to think of replenish, which sound similar. Yet, when you want to use it in the present, past, or future tense to mean things like filled or will fill, youll also need to know its conjugations. This lesson will introduce you to the simplest forms youll need for your French conversations. The Basic Conjugations of  Remplir Remplir is a regular -ir verb, so it does use a rather common conjugation pattern found in French verbs. The endings you find here are the same as you would use for words like bà ©nir (to bless) and finir (to finish). If you study a few of these together, each is just a little easier to remember. The first step is to identify the radical or stem of the verb. For  remplir, that is  rempl-. To this, different endings are added to fit both the sentences subject pronoun and its tense. This gives us, for example,  je remplis  for I am filling and  nous remplirons  for we will fill. Practicing these whenever you see someone fill something will help you commit them to memory. Present Future Imperfect je remplis remplirai remplissais tu remplis rempliras remplissais il remplit remplira remplissait nous remplissons remplirons remplissions vous remplissez remplirez remplissiez ils remplissent rempliront remplissaient The Present Participle of  Remplir Useful as a verb as well as a noun or adjective in some instances, the present participle of remplir is an easy conjugation. Simply add -issant to the radical and you have remplissant. Remplir  in the Compound Past Tense In French, the compound past tense is called the  passà © composà ©. Its also easy to form and youll begin with the present tense conjugate of the auxiliary verb  avoir  appropriate to the subject. All thats left is adding the  past participle  rempli, which implies that the act of filling happened in the past. This leaves us with things like  jai rempli  for I filled and  nous avons rempli  for we filled. More Simple Conjugations of  Remplir To question the certainty of whether something is filled or not, youll use  the subjunctive  form of  remplir. Similarly, if it will only happen if something else does,  the conditional  can be used. Youll encounter the passà © simple  and  the imperfect subjunctive  only in written French as these are literary tenses. Subjunctive Conditional Pass Simple Imperfect Subjunctive je remplisse remplirais remplis remplisse tu remplisses remplirais remplis remplisses il remplisse remplirait remplit remplt nous remplissions remplirions remplmes remplissions vous remplissiez rempliriez rempltes remplissiez ils remplissent rempliraient remplirent remplissent The French imperative  is used for short and very direct statements and the subject pronoun is not required. All you need to say is  remplis  rather than  tu remplis. Imperative (tu) remplis (nous) remplissons (vous) remplissez

Students and the Civil Rights Movement During the 1960s...

The 1960s was a decade of tremendous social and political upheaval. In the United States, many movements occurred by groups of people seeking to make positive changes in society. During this decade, the Civil Rights movement continued to gain momentum. The black community was continually persecuted and discriminated against by prejudice white individuals and figures of authority. Blacks everywhere struggled to end discrimination. They demanded the right to vote, to receive quality education, and to become respected individuals in the community which shunned them. Breaching International Markets Essay Example For Students

Breaching International Markets Essay Measuring a potential business venture has many aspects which the international manager must be aware of in order to convey the correct information back to the decision makers. Being ignorant to any of the aspects can lead to a false representation of the project, and hence an uninformed decision being passed. In order for a business to survive it must grow. For growth to be optimal, management must first be able to identify the most attractive prospective leads. The country as a whole, specifically geography, government, and financial aspects must be looked at in order to yield the best possible picture of the market a company wishes to enter. Concentration should be placed on gathering reliable facts that are backed up by more than one source. It is to be hoped that after creating a picture of the market, managements analysis of the potential business venture and plan of action will be structured as to avoid losses and to find the most profitable scenarios. The success of the multinational corporation lies on the shoulders of its management. International management and organization-design expert Henry Mintzenberg says every CEO has three essential duties: direct supervision, development of the organizations strategy, and management of the organizations boundary conditions. Top managements responsibility at and beyond the organizations boundaries is largely a communication responsibility; however, no commonly accepted model exists for decision, execution, and assessment of communication opportunities. Within even some of the largest and most venerable organizations, the process used is haphazard and inconsistent. The Wyatt Companys survey of communications professionals showed that just 58.1 percent agreed that their organizations communication objectives are linked to business objectives, and 83.3 percent reported that their organizations conduct no formal review of return on communications investment. CEOs must establish and reinforce an organizations image in public by viewing each target public as a client; by doing research, looking at trends, and talking to experts, a CEO focuses on selling what the client wants to buy.1Finding a country to conduct business in can be a very easy task depending on if the organizations top management follows the advice of Mr. Mintzenberg. The way a company normally discovers where to conduct research is through leads on potential operations from outside sources. The selection of which leads to investigate becomes the difficult task. After sifting through the leads and finding the right ones to investigate management must formulate an international marketing plan. This further helps management in locating potential markets for their products. The first step is to use secondary research to find out what the sales potential is in a given market. Asking the questions of need, demand, and support gives one a starting point for research. If we were a company that sold pants we might want to ask the following questions. Is there a need for pants? Is it cold enough there to wear pants? Do people that demand the pants have money? These are the questions that one should ask of potential markets. Table 1-located at the end of the paper-shows the statistics that are needed for a general market picture. After gathering the information from the secondary research, the picture of a potential market becomes more evident. However, to make the picture clearer, one must conduct primary research. This research outlines the specifics of the potential market that directly pertain to the product. Robert Douglas book, Penetrating the International Market, addresses the issue of locating potential markets in greater detail.2 After finding a lead that contains profitable markets it is necessary to analyze the venture as a whole. The decisions of companies must be based on the facts of reliable sources on all investments. To gather the information needed for investment projects, m anagement must organize a competent feasibility team. The members of this team should be comprised of employees of the company, this is so that the knowledge will stay within the company. If the resources are not available for an employee conducted study then outside consultants may be used, it may also be beneficial to use a combination of the two. The first step in conducting a study is to design it by using project objectives as the base. During the second step the team must be staffed with people that have the ability to solve problems in any situation. In the third step the team should be properly placed and instructed. In the fourth and final step the product of the feasibility study should be properly communicated to the decision-making management.3 Table 2-located at the end of the paper-shows a general timeline that a company follows through the progression of a feasibility study. The design of a feasibility study first assumes that a company possesses the skills and resour ces necessary to be competitive in the market under analysis. Management must know the limits of its operations abroad. The operating margin for the expense of establishing and starting operations abroad should be easily recoverable within a reasonable time period. The design should also include the managements goals, which comes down from the investors of the company. The goals of management should be to acquire specific knowledge of the partner, in a joint venture situation, as well as the financial aspects, and the business-environment. The currency of the host country along with the political situation, and the economy are finer points of detail that the study must cover when analyzing the business-environment.4 In a less formal sense the design of the study should cover relevant material so that when viewing the final report decision-makers will know with what they are becoming involved. Siddhartha es un EssayBy the beginning of the week the team was eager and ready to start work on the study. Using the contact list and each individuals daily schedule the team was sent about to gather information. From each contact on the prepared list each member was expected to gain at least two additional contacts. While meeting with contacts the team was asked to differentiate between opinion and fact. This is because misinformation gathered by inexperienced people is very abundant. Fortunately for Walbecker the team he had assembled was able to distinguish between relevant and irrelevant material. During the study the team was also required to take notes every day. They were also encouraged to go outside of the metropolitan area in order to gain a better feeling of the country and its people. Upon return of the team from Athens, Walbecker concluded the following: the rate of return would be 16 percent, the partners had good integrity and intentions, the political situation was not extremely stable, the ownership option was good for other projects if the Patras investment was slow, and there were no technical or market developments evident to slow down progress in construction. From these findings Walbecker had to persuade the Board to agree to the venture. He concentrated on the soundness of the venture, the reliability of the partners, and the advantages of Greece. Using market analyses and forecasts, an audit of Titans financial affairs, the geological report, plant layout and consolidated capital estimates, and a business-environment report, which covered the political situation, the economy, partner evaluation, and an outlook on the countrys currency-the Drachma-Mr. Walbecker was prepared to start finalizing the report. Concluding the report were the financial details on the US$4.5 million equity needed by Yankee. Before giving a formalized presentation to the Board and other important associates, Mr. Walbecker had informal discussions over breakfast with the three top executives at Yankee about the project. The reason for this was not only to give the executives a briefing about the information that was gathered, but also to get an idea as to result of the vote on the project. After the formal presentation, the Board was given one month to decide on accepting or rejecting the project. At the conclusion of one months time from the formal presentation the Boards vote revealed the acceptance of the project. This example should have revealed the importance of the site selection, gathering, and transmission processes used in conducting a feasibility study. The main point of conducting a feasibility study is to find the intricate details which are necessary to make the right choice for expansion. The example presented above is just one particular situation. In trying to maintain brevity, the paper could not possibly include all of the suggested actions that management should take in every situation. Management must be able to adjust and plan a course of action to find the details of their particular situation that are essentials to making a viable decision. As an overall idea in dealing with foreign counterparts one should be objective in judgment and abundant in knowledge of the persons/peoples backgrounds. Knowledge is a valuable resource when expanding operations. Conducting venture analysis is one way in which a company can perceive how the investment will contribute to future operations. How would you direct Act 3 Scene 5 from William Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet Essay Example For Students

How would you direct Act 3 Scene 5 from William Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet? Essay In this essay I am going to discuss how I would direct Act 3 Scene 5 from William Shakespeares, Romeo and Juliet, first produced in 1595. Since then, there have been modern productions where the original text has been adapted for film. Considering this, I am going to direct a film version, explaining in detail Act 3 Scene 5. I will develop ideas based on two films, Romeo and Juliet directed by Franco Zeffirelli in 1968 and Romeo and Juliet directed by Baz Luhrmann in 1997. To make this play relevant to todays society I will set it in modern day England because I do not think that a traditional setting will appeal to a modern audience. To portray the conflict between the two families I will have the Montagues and Capulets different religions. In Shakespeares original text, we do not find out why the families are opposed, and why it would anger both families for Romeo and Juliet to marry. We do know that in Shakespeares time, it was considered a mortal sin to be trying to be wed while already married. It was believed that you would certainly go to hell and no Friar would conduct the ceremony. Nowadays, it is the choice of the person who they marry. I will explain this situation by Juliets family being Hindus and therefore an arranged marriage would be a normal thing for her. This will also explain why it is such a bad thing for them to marry. The Montagues would dislike the Capulets possibly because of their racial background. This would represent the ra cism and discrimination that still goes on today. However Romeo and Juliet will represent the young generation of people who do not have these views and have put their families prejudices behind them, which is one of Shakespeares main plot lines. Instead of changing the text so that it is in modern day language, I will keep the words how Shakespeare wrote them. I believe the language is essential to the feel of the play and many of the lines are famous and recognisable as they are. Romeo, Romeo, where for art thou Romeo is known worldwide and is immediately associated with Romeo and Juliet. I also believe the language itself sounds romantic and would better express how the characters are feeling for each other. It will not matter that some lines will have to be removed to make it a suitable length for a film. I do not think any understanding will be lost because the new visual aspect, combined with the script, will successfully make up for this. I will direct Act 3 Scene 5 from line 65, where Lady Capulet enters. Prior to this, Juliet has said goodbye to Romeo, who after getting married and spending the night with Juliet, must leave for Mantua. In the rest of the scene, it is revealed to Juliet of the arrangements for her to marry Paris. Her parents are united in this decision and when she refuses, they threaten to disown her. Alone with the Nurse, Juliet asks her for advice. She replies that Juliet should marry Paris and Romeo is nothing compared to him. Juliet is shocked, as the Nurse is one of the only people she trusts and who knows of her love for Romeo. She pretends to agree with her advice and says the only person who can help her is Friar Lawrence. She claims she will do what he suggests or if that fails, take her own life. I chose this scene because I believe it is crucial to the development of the plot and the outcome of the play. If the Capulets, on seeing Juliets strong objections, had not forced her to marry Paris, she would never have had to take drastic measures to avoid it. She would never have had to take the potion of the Friars, leading to death of both her and Romeo. She would have been able to get in touch with him another way and the whole tragedy need not have happened. The actors I want for this film would have to represent the characteristics and personalities of the original way the characters are portrayed in the text. When you read the play, you get a personal opinion of what the people look like and I am using what I think, based on what they say and do. In Act 3 Scene 5 line__ to end, there are four characters, Juliet, the Nurse, Lady Capulet and Capulet. In the scenes previous, Juliet comes across as being pretty because Romeo forgets all about Rosaline when he sees her, young, on Lammas Eve, she shall be fourteen. and innocent as she is inexperienced. In this scene, she develops and we see a new side to her. She is outwardly defiant and confident as she disobeys her parents. I think that actress Parminda Nagra (Bend It Like Beckham) would be perfect for the role. She is young, in my opinion, pretty and she has experience in taking on a role where she is fighting against her authoritative parents over what she wants to do with her life. Who or what do you think was responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet? EssayThroughout the scene there are moments like this. I would emphasise them in the hope that the audience will pick up on the double meanings. To do this I will do a close up on the actor or actress, to make it memorable, and have the actor pause for a few seconds after the line has been delivered. This will add to the impact of the line and give time for the audience to think about what has just been said. When Lady Capulet is talking to Juliet about Romeo she mentions Tybalt and she assumes this is why she is upset, That he shall soon keep Tybalt company. This line ties in strongly with some of the themes of the play like death and fate. What Shakespeare intends by this is for us to realise that she wants Romeo dead, like Tybalt has but, as the play progresses, we see that Romeo dies in the Capulet vault and therefore is literally, keeping Tybalt company. There is a strong sense of irony throughout this scene. I would emphasise this particular line by panning across with the actress as she walks nearer to Juliet, and then cutting to Juliets horrified reaction. I would also increase the lighting on Lady Capulet, to symbolise she is, although unaware, enlightened to what will happen. More irony is present later in the scene. Most of the characters unintentionally say things that later come true. This is a direct link with one of the plays themes, fate. Delay this marriage for a month, a week, or if you do not, make the bridal bed in the dim monument where Tybalt lies. Juliet is saying she would rather die than marry Paris but in fact, this becomes the case. Shakespeare has let the audience know that both of the main characters die by including the Prologue but he also drops clues throughout the play, letting you know more details about the death before it has happened. This is to intrigue the audience and keep them interested. I would stress this line because if the audience pick up on its relevance, it will make it more exciting to watch. I would emphasise its importance by using music. In the lines before it, I would have the music slowly building up to a climax when the line is being said and then going quiet and slow. This will have a dramatic subconscious effect to the audience. The line will stand out, but because music will be playing throughout this scene, it will not be obvious why. This technique was used in the Luhrmanns adaptation. He used stops and starts of music particularly for the important scenes, such as the death scene. More themes of the play are touched on in this scene, God pardon him, I do with all my heart. Juliet shows the audience that even though Romeo killed her cousin, Juliet is able to forgive him and still loves him. He stays true to Romeo. This ties in with the themes of love and loyalty. To emphasise this, I would zoom in on Juliets face, stopping when only her head and torso is in view. While she delivers the line, she could place both hands on her heart and glance towards the window. This would show her heart is still true to Romeo and that she is still thinking of him. Shakespeare wanted the loyalty and love for each other that Romeo and Juliet have to be apparent throughout the play. I would carry this idea on by emphasising this line. To show Capulets authority and dominance over Juliet in this scene, I would use a point of view shot as Juliet, being towered over by her father. In this way the audience could relate to how Juliet is feeling and sympathise with her. I would do this when Capulet insults Juliet. He repeated calls Juliet proud and calls her names such as young baggage, disobedient wretch, tallow-face, sickness-green carrion and unworthy. Although considered mild or amusing today, in the sixteenth century they would be considered extremely strong and forceful. By making these insults look dramatic and harsh, this would better convey Capulets intense displeasure. The scene ends with Juliet on her own speaking her thoughts, a monologue. She reveals how she is feeling about her parents ideas, Ancient damnation, O most wicked fiend and tells the audience that if she cannot get out of it, she wants to die. If all else fail, myself have power to die. This again ties in with the theme of fate and so I believe it is as important as the rest of the scene. To emphasise her distress, I would pan the shot around her, slowly zooming and then resting at a close up on her face when she delivers the last line. I want the picture of just her face and how angry she is to be memorable so at the very end I would cut to a black screen. I believe that my direction of Act 3 Scene 5 by adaptations, choice of characters and use of dramatic devices will make this scene successful.
